I WAS LOOKING FOR A BREATH OF LIFE .... a little touch of heavenly light.... BUT ALL THE CHOIRS IN MY HEAD SANG "no" The sky was covered in thick, grey clouds. Valerie half prayed, to any deity that would listen, that it would mean a thunderstorm's ahead... Or she hoped that it would at least rain. She loved the rain, snow... Basically the cold. It somehow made her more alive. Besides, she loved how green everything looked, and man could she sleep when it poured.
Potions was almost over, and Val was still writing in her note book, trying to go as fast as she can so she won't have any homework for later, and so that she could get out from the dungeons and into the fresh, cold air. But it was hard to concentrate. Her best friend, who so happens to be sitting next to her, really couldn't wait to get out of class and kept mumbling "Come on, come on, come on" bouncing with excitement and impatience in her seat. Valerie understood, of course, Amy had planned to see someone, and Val knew she actually planned on waiting outside his class and act like she 'accidently' ran into him. And that plan won't exactly work if he's out before she gets there.
Val rolled her eyes at the girl, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips, but as she looked up from her work and glanced all over the class, it faltered when she saw the teacher was busy scolding some Slytherin, who of course picked on another Hufflepuff by dropping her books to the ground repeatedly. Valerie sighed, shaking her head and looked at Amy "Go. I'll cover for you if he notices you're gone." Amy thought about it, and after a look from Val, grinned "My ovaries and I thank you." she hugged her quickly before she carefully sneaked out of class.
The Hufflepuff restrained herself from laughing, only a soft chuckle escaping her. She turned back to her work and continued writing, she loved writing and summing everything up in class, but she never learned it. Once out of the classroom it was as if her lazy switch suddenly turned right back on. So it was all for nothing, actually, though all the writing looked good mixed in with all her doodles. Another thing she loved doing during class.
The Professor excused the class but Val still had one sentence to complete. She quickly rushed it and closed her book with a loud 'thud' sound following. Their books were quite thick, and she had a lot to carry around today. She gathered everything and just as she was about to turn and leave her eyes caught the sight of Amy's books. Bitch forgot them. "Urgh, Amy, why do you do this to me?" she whined to herself, gathering all Amy's books and stacking them on top of hers with difficulty.
She was the last to leave the class, and she did so slowly too since she couldn't really see where she was going. Every now and then you'll see a pair of eyes poking out from either the sides or the top. She mentally swore at the situation, biting on her bottom lip, trying her best to not trip or lose a book or two along the way. She could just imagine what Amy would say if she saw her now "You look like you want to plant those so they can grow trees and populate the earth." Val couldn't help but smile at that, but it quickly faded as she came face to face with one of the worst, most diabolical things in existence... Stairs.
Mustering all the bravery she could, she took the stairs head on, apologizing to the them for all her past insults, begging them to let her climb peacefully rather than let her reach the top stackless. She new she was probably insane for mentally speaking to stairs, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
After conquering the mission of climbing the stairs she smiled proudly. Hey, climbing stairs with a stack of books ain't as easy as it looks. She walked into the Viaduct, figuring with so much open space and with the massive stack of books, students will see her coming from a mile away and move to the side. But due to the thought of students looking at her, she picked up the pace and before she knew it, something solid 'just appeared' in front of her, or rather someone. The clash send the books falling to the ground and a sudden look of horror filled her features "Shit!" she exclaimed, and to make matters worse, she looked like a clown trying to juggle but failing epicly as she tried to catch the books before they fell to the ground.
At least her clown act wasn't for nothing, she caught one book, the rest all scattered around her and the other's feet. Biting on her bottom lip, her eyes slowly made their way up from his feet to his face. He was Slytherin, and when she saw exactly which Slytherin it was her fingers suddenly turned numb and the book in her hand slipped, joining the rest on the floor.
In a way that was a good thing, if it wasn't for the 'thud' sound it made on impact, Val would've probably stared and embarrassed herself even more "Uhm, I- you, I mean I'm..." she sighed, closing her eyes to stop herself from mumbling. 'I'm such a [insert colourful word here] moron'. She opened her eyes, biting her lip nervously and placing a few stray hairs behind her ear as she looked up to meet his eyes, hers apologetic and her cheeks red as a rose. She bend down and started to pick the books up in a hurry, figuring he must think she's some type of idiot, and since he was Slytherin, she really didn't want to stay and be mocked. So sparing herself from more embarrassment, she tried to hurry so she could go hide away in her dorm, which she probably will never come out of ever again. -------------- This post happens to be 1048 words long. I TRIED TO SAVE YOU LET YOU DRINK THE PAIN( A final song that we both know! )SO I'M NOT GIVING UP Transfiguration was not Xavier Zabini's best class. He didn't hate the subject, at times he rather enjoyed it. But sometimes he would get so annoyed with how little of progress he would make, that it seemed he was rather bad at the subject. Piertotum Locomotor was the current spell that was getting on his nerves and under his skin. Their practice dummy was a small statue, the kind muggles used to practice drawing poses and what not. They had to try and make the stupid object come to life for about a minute or so & then the professor would untransfigurate them & the process was to be repeated several more times.
The best he could do, was to get different parts to move. Not the entire thing like everybody else, but like a leg or an arm. Watching it kick and give him a small entertained Xavier a little. His mind was more focused on getting out of class and being free for just a few hours. He didn't hate school, but he was like any other teenager; after awhile it just got very boring & tedious.
Seeing all of the other students rush out of the class, Xavier stayed back a little to put his things away and to not be trampled in the huge mess of the halls. Slinging his bag over his shoulder, he should his hand into pocket and merely walked out of the classroom. Unlike everybody else that was going to rush back to their respective common rooms, Xavier figured that he could use fresh air rather then being cooped up inside all day long.
One of the his favorite places to go was the Viaduct Courtyard. Yes that place did get fairly crowded, but the scenery was just lovely. Looking at the horizon rather than in front of him, young Xavier bumped into somebody. He was lucky that he didn't fall over but instead it was currently raining books, and one had hit him on the shoulder. "Ow" he merely mumbled to himself. Other Slytherin students would have started yelling, cursing up a storm & sending jinxes left & right. But he knew when he was paying attention to where he was going.
Hearing the sound of a female apparently to speak English, or possibly some other language. Xavier raised an eyebrow as he picked up a book and looked at the witch who was holding them. "I don't think that is considered as English" he spoke to her. Now he would never heard the end from it if anybody from his house caught wind of it. A Slytherin and a Hufflepuff, some what conversing together. Holding the book out for her, he waited for her to take it. "Do you always carry this many books?"

I WAS LOOKING FOR A BREATH OF LIFE .... a little touch of heavenly light.... BUT ALL THE CHOIRS IN MY HEAD SANG "no" Panicked, Valerie quickly gathered the books. Just as she planned to reach out towards the last one, he picked it up for her...? The girl stared at the now empty spot, previously inhabited by her best friend's potions book, surprise and confusion all mixed together in her dark eyes. "I don't think that is considered as English," he said and she felt a pang of bitter recognition. There was that infamous Slytherin attitude. Yet... His was different. She had half expected him to call her a moron or an idiot - which, right now, she felt to be just a little bit - and maybe even send a hex her way for bumping into his majesty. Then again, Val always knew he wasn't like the rest of his house. Seems he just proved it.
Standing up, she looked at the book in his hand, subconsciously putting a dark strand of hair behind her ear, trying to avoid eye contact for as long as possible. "Well, yes and no. I just tend to mumble when I bump into people," she said, her voice soft with a hint of sarcasm. Her eyes flashed up to meet his, and she was a bit taken a back by how shockingly beautiful they were. She swallowed as a reminder not to stare, "Especially a Slytherin," she finished, as if reminding herself. Much to her surprise he held out the book towards her. She forced her eyes away to gaze upon it, trying her best to push back the confusion she was sure could be seen in her expression. She didn't expect this... At all. He was nice?!
"Thanks," she said honestly and took it, placing it on the small stack by her feet. Just as she was about to pick it up and be on her way once again, he asked "Do you always carry this many books?" and without giving her lips permission, they twisted up into a small smile and she shook her head, locking eyes with him, hers half asking him 'what?' "No," she replied with a breathy - and unplanned - laugh, the smile faltering only slightly as the words "HE'S A SLYTHERIN!!!!" flashed in neon lights in her head. "My friend forgot her books in class. All of them," she explained. Sure, the Potions books weren't so thick that she couldn't even see over it, but she and Amy loved reading. Therefore they often carried a few books they borrowed from the library. That and the books of their previous classes. Together, it all formed a small tower, which Val got stuck with. Stupid best friend.
She practically forced her smile into fading completely once she had to kick herself and remember exactly who she was talking to. It wasn't just another Slytherin, though. It was one that, to her, stood out above all others. The Hufflepuff would deny this if someone asked or noticed, but the girl couldn't helpbut look every time he entered the Great Hall or even a Courtyard she so happened to be at. He was almost never with other Slytherins. In fact; the only time she saw him with others of his house was when he either pranked them or argued with them. Never could she quite place him. Was he nice? Was he an arse as expected? One of those who still believed in Voldemort...? Well, he sure looked like all of the above could be true.
But even though he looked the part of the average Slytherin asshole and even though he was probably one of those guys a girl like her should stay away from at all costs and be dragged away from by her best friend, she couldn't help but wonder. Even though he was the person that that little voice in her head warned her about and even though she knew she should probably grab the stack of books and walk away as fast as her feet could carry her, she... She didn't want to.
Besides, he just intrigued her even more by asking her a question to... start a conversation? Is that what he was doing? She always wondered what was it about him that made her look. But now she started wondering why she could even question it. ------------ This post happens to be 737 words long. I TRIED TO SAVE YOU LET YOU DRINK THE PAIN( A final song that we both know! )SO I'M NOT GIVING UP "Well maybe next time, I won't be in your way" Xavier told her, his way of saying that she wasn't the only one at fault there. He too should have been paying attention to where he was going rather than keeping his head in the clouds. Hearing her add the Slytherin part, Xavier decided to ignore it. He knew she didn't mean any harm by adding it so continue to bring it up?
When she had said that her friend left her books in all of her classes, Xavier raised an eyebrow in slight confusion."Either she keeps running away or has a horrible memory" Xavier commented. Taking another look at the small tower of books, he gave her a slight, even more, confused look. Obviously the girl was right around his age or a year younger, but she had books from previous years.
After a few minutes the air between, at least to Xavier, was awkward. Xavier didn't talk to very many people. He was outcast in his own home and with the Slytherins. He would occasionally send mail to Victoire and ask for some advice and the only other person he ever had full on conversations with was his little sister. Many times his mind wandered to him just dropping out and going to work somewhere instead. Being seventeen, he could use magic outside of Hogwarts and not get into trouble.
Rubbing his hand behind his neck, he looked over at the girl. Obviously she wasn't scared of him which was good. He wasn't a big fan of people being scared of him for no good reason. He had seen her before with the other Hufflepuffs. As for classes that was a no. "I'm Xavier by the way"

I WAS LOOKING FOR A BREATH OF LIFE .... a little touch of heavenly light.... BUT ALL THE CHOIRS IN MY HEAD SANG "no" To be quite honest, Valerie didn't know what the hell to say to him. She didn't talk to many people. In fact; if she could avoid talking to people she didn't know, she would. Awkward was her middle-name, and a constant state she wandered around in. Or, at least, she thought she did. The girl's confidence wasn't always what it should be. Her fear of judgement made her be careful with people and she's always wonder back about every little thing she said. Was it inappropriate? Did it even make sense? Was it just plain weird? Usually, in her mind, all of the above were horrible affirmatives.
"Well, maybe next time I won't be in your way," she caught him saying. Did he just imply that it wasn't just her, he was at fault as well...? Valerie smiled, her eyebrows simultaneously knitting together in a soft frown of mild confusion. It surprised her that he was still standing there, to begin with, but even more so when he took some of the blame. She wanted to reply, but, words just struggled to form as so many questions started the cloud her mind. Her mouth opened and closed, words not stringing together to form any articulate sentences.
"Either she keeps running away or has a horrible memory," he said just as she was about to part her lips, once again, to utter something she would probably regret. In a way she was glad he spoke first "Well, no on the running away part but yes on the memory," she spoke with a small, barely visible smile tugging at the corner of her lips as her eyes followed his to gaze upon the small tower of books "her memory is just awful. She'll forget her bum if it wasn't attached to her," the Hufflepuff chuckled - DID SHE JUST MAKE A BUTT JOKE?! - her fingers pulled her sleeve down so she would have something to fiddle with as that awkward silence returned. Just say something, Val! Something intelligent!
She looked up, fingers curling and uncurling as she fiddled with the soft, black fabric. Seconds flew by and she said nothing. She tried to think of something to say, but everything she wanted to say or ask was... Horribly unfitting.
Noticing his confusion as he looked at her books, she started to wonder if he even knew who she was. If not, she wouldn't really be surprised. Why would a seventh year Pureblood Slytherin know who she is? Most people in her own house probably didn't even know who she is. Her eyes darted to the floor and she knew the silence between them was growing far too long as he reached up to rub the back of his neck, and as her eyes flashed back up, she once again found herself wanting to stare.
She blinked, knowing herself out of her little reverie, back to reality. Then... Oh, god, she had to say something now, didn't she?! She needed to speak, to say something! Show signs of intelligent life! Apparently he thought the same "I'm Xavier, by the way," he introduced himself? Valerie couldn't help but give him an surprised look - he kept surprising her, didn't he? - but yet her lips, without permission, formed a small smile. "Yeah, I know," she said, but the moment it was said, the smile immediately faltered and her eyes widened as she realized she probably sounded like a stalker "I mean, I, well, you're a year older and I've, it's..." she stopped herself again, sighing to calm herself down. She hated the fact that she always mumbled when she was nervous. So being around the mysterious Slytherin who's, shockingly, actually trying to talk with her, didn't help.
"Back to English again... What I meant, and should have said, is... I'm Valerie. Who you probably just want to get away from right now," she looked to the ground and closed her eyes, just for good measure. The girl didn't think she could stand the look of 'you're weird' that was probably on his beautiful face. ------------ This post happens to be 726 words long. I TRIED TO SAVE YOU LET YOU DRINK THE PAIN( A final song that we both know! )SO I'M NOT GIVING UP Instead of hearing a 'nice to meet you' comment, Xavier heard something a little different; I know. Now a lot of people probably would have been so freaked out by it that they would have run away and never look back at her. Sure it was a rather odd response, but it didn't scare Xavier. It entertained him more than anything. Besides she looked like she couldn't really harm him.
Xavier nodded his head with a slight chuckle. "Understandable" he said, commenting on the obvious fact of him being older than her. "Me? Get away from you?" he questioned her after shoving his hands into his pockets, he let out a laugh. And not a quiet one at that, a very hearty laugh. "Is it because I'm a Slytherin? Because I am not like the rest of my house, as you can tell." he said with a smile on his face.
"Besides, you're way more fun than the rest of my house. They're all boring and worrying about blood purity and a whole bunch of other crap.""
